South America Holidays - Overview Argentina

The Drama Queen of South America, Argentina is a country with attitude.
From the thundering and spine tingling Iguazu Falls to the icy glacial wonders of Tierra del Fuego land of fire, where sightings of Southern Right whale make you gasp, Argentina will hold you entranced.

Headliner Buenos Aires simply smoulders with seductive style.

Home of the sultry Tango, overflowing with chic boutiques, eclectic buildings, epicurean cuisine and vibrant nightlife, this bewitching city is guaranteed to bring the house down.

With a cast list of hot humid jungles, lazy indulgent wine estates, gauchos, guanacos, futbol and endless Patagonian steppes, Argentina certainly knows how to put on a show

A true paradise for the sports and outdoor enthusiasts.
Iguazu Falls, a world heritage site and one of the most breathtaking sights imaginable. Over 250 waterfalls surrounded by tropical jungle and nature in all her glory. Explore the cascading network of waterfalls while colourful parrots fly overhead.

Perfect snow attracts skiers and snowboarders to the world's most southerly ski resorts. With jet-set style après-ski it’s definitely a place to show off!

Serious climbers can head to the Andes to tackle the mighty Aconcagua. Serious wine buffs can head off to the lush Mendoza wine estates and tackle the mighty Argentinian Malbec while they wait for the serious climbers to come down.

Argentinian Patagonia for kayaking, climbing, and trekking. The rivers descending from the Andean ranges are attracting an increasing number of whitewater rafting enthusiasts.

One of the world's great horse cultures, Argentina is the perfect place for spectacular riding. Frequent the polo fields of Buenos Aires or saddle up with the gauchos and roam the Pampas.

The Spaghetti Western landscapes of Salta and the North West. Shimmering salt flats, high altitude desert, a rich indigenous culture and pre-Incan ruins.

Ride the heartstopping Train to the Clouds or spend some time at Quebrada de Humahuaca where technicolour mountains blaze with mineral colour.

Take your hiking boots and trek across the Perito Moreno Glacier in Patagonia. Face to face with this massive wall of ice with more shades of blue than you could ever have imagined, you will hear squeaks, thuds and roaring as the ice splits and falls into the sea.

For Food and Fun
Argentina's cultural calendar is simply bursting with fiestas, celebrations and any excuse for a party. Definitely be sure to attend at least one when you visit.

A lively Welsh Eisteddfod, with plentiful food and choral singing, takes place in the Patagonian towns of Trelew and Trevelin and the colourful Gaucho Parade in Salta should not be missed.

Argentina is carnivore heaven. Make sure you don't miss the chance to try a traditional 'Asado' where succulent grass-fed Argentinian beef is grilled to perfection and the natural flavours are unforgettable.

And then of course there is the incomparable capital, Buenos Aires, definitely one of the most beautiful cities of the Southern hemisphere.Check out the elegant San Telmo and Recoleta neighborhoods and join in with the locals as they tango the night away.

When to Go
Argentina is a great year round destination. The seasons are opposite to ours. January and February the hottest months. Buenos Aires is best visited when the temperature is mild, March-May and September-November.

In summer months, Patagonia and the southern Andes are ideal destinations as the days are longer and warmer. Go in September or October to Iguazu Falls when they are in full speight.

A good time to head northwest is June to November when it’s drier and cooler. The ski season runs from mid June to mid October.
